crowns

As we age, our teeth can sometimes undergo irreparable damage, such as root canals or fractured fillings that are harmful to their overall health and appearance. At our Los Angeles dental office we offer porcelain crowns as a type of dental restoration that serves as a cap over your tooth or dental implant. They are highly durable, allow for common functions such as chewing and can last for several years.

Why would I need to get a porcelain crown?

Reasons for porcelain crowns include:

  • Restoring a tooth to its original shape
  • Strengthening a tooth
  • Improving cosmetic appearance of a tooth

When decay is so large that a filling, inlay, or onlay will not suffice, but not so big that the tooth may need to be extracted, a porcelain crown is often the perfect restorative solution.

What are the benefits of porcelain crowns?

Porcelain crowns, especially all-porcelain crowns, are a strong, natural option for restoration of a single tooth. All-porcelain crowns are made exclusive here, at our in-house dental lab, fabricated by artisan technicians, made with 100% all-natural porcelain. Unlike porcelain fused to metal, all-porcelain crowns look more natural and stay more natural because they don't have metal margins that show after a few years. This ensures your smile will look great and stay functional for years to come.

What does the porcelain crown procedure entail?

A porcelain crown is usually placed in two dental visits. During the first visit, our doctors will evaluate your dental decay and have you fitted for a temporary crown. The temporary looks a lot like what your permanent porcelain crown would look like, but the temporary gives you time to adjust to your new restoration and it gives our doctors an opportunity to examine you with the restoration in your mouth, letting them make adjustments or modifications as necessary.

At the second visit, once all adjustments have been made (if needed at all), the temporary crown is removed and our doctors place your permanent restoration. Once your permanent crown is placed, you'll need some time to get used to your new restoration. During this time and afterward, regular dental hygiene visits and proper oral hygiene at home are needed to make sure your smile remains healthy and your porcelain crown lasts for years and years.

As South Bay dentists, we can create crowns to match the exact shape, size and color of your teeth to give you the permanent beautiful smile you've always wanted!
